Postalm via ferrata – a fascinating adventure in a wild and romantic setting
Experience an intense nature adventure: The Postalm via ferrata combines spectacular scenery with action-packed sections – ideal for well-trained and experienced via ferrata climbers. From daredevil bridges to steep gorge passages to the demanding Gamsleckenwand: this route combines thrills, scenic beauty, and sophisticated route variation.
Highlights & Character
- Rushing gorge experience: The trail leads through the wild Postalm Gorge with up to 7 rope or suspension bridges, including the dramatic “Bridge of Sighs” and the adventurous “Hangel Bridge”.
- Tests of courage included: Crossings such as the “Gatt Jump” (C), wet, slippery wall sections, and the challenging “Waterfall Bridge” area provide real adrenaline.
- Final section of the Gamsleckenwand: The final section—steep and partly overhanging—is rated D. However, there's also an easier bypass option and even a more extreme F variant for absolute pros.
Duration & Elevation
- Approach: Approx. 10–15 minutes from the car park (turn 2/Postalmstraße Strobl) with a few meters of elevation gain.
- Via Ferrata: Around 3-4 hours, with an ascent of around 300-450 m, depending on the route and end point (up to approx. 1.040 m).
- Descent: Approximately 1 hour along forest paths or across the Postalm plateau to the various alpine huts or back to the parking lot.
Difficulty & Equipment
Difficulty: Lower part C, Gamsleckenwand D, F variant very demanding (E/F level).
Recommended ageNot suitable for children under 14 years of age. Teenagers only with extended safety device.

Stable, non-slip shoes
Waterproof clothing (especially in the gorge it is cool and damp)

Tips & Safety
Attention: The gorge is slippery, especially on earthy or overgrown sections. Caution, surefootedness, and appropriate equipment are required.
Plan for waiting times: Narrow places such as bridges can lead to short traffic jams

Refreshment possibility: Many different alpine huts on the Postalm as a worthwhile conclusion
