The Advent in Abtenau with its rural Christmas market and the Advent markets are a special highlight in Tennengau during the contemplative pre-Christmas period in Salzburg. Fragrant Christmas baked goods, handmade works of art, Christmas decorations, Christmas tree decorations and culinary delicacies are on offer. Various Advent concerts also invite you to feel the pre-Christmas atmosphere and the quiet time of the year first hand.

Traditionally, on December 5th, the Krampuses and their St. Nicholas arrive at the market square. Christmas markets offer handicrafts, monastic works, pottery products and delicacies at beautifully decorated wooden stalls. The nativity scenes by local artists can also be admired, as well as a life-size "wooden nativity scene".
In the Christkindl post office, lovely angels help the children formulate and write their wish lists. The letters are sealed with a seal and forwarded to the Christ Child. The Abtenau tower blowers provide the background music for the mountain advent. Horse-drawn carriages wait for visitors along the market square to be able to whisk them off into the magnificent winter landscape.

A special highlight every year is the “Abtenau Advent Singing" in the parish church of Abtenau, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. In the heart of the Salzburg mountains, choirs and folk musicians resound in a pre-Christmas symphony. A real feast for the senses: the beautifully decorated parish church, the contemplative scent of incense and Christmas sounds from various musicians.
